IBC 2000, Chapter 17, Structural Tests and Special Inspection has been around for a while, well at least since IBC 2000 was adopted in Georgia (January 1, 2002). However, enforcement of Chapter 17 by building officials and acceptance by design professionals and owners has been slow. Now it is picking up steam. Many more building officials are taking a more active enforcement role. Also, design professionals are realizing the potential liability associated with non-compliance. In September 2005 GSFIC will begin enforcement of Chapter 17 on their projects. So the push is on.
